Sometimes i try to remember what life was like before social media and i really struggle to. Social media has been apart of our lives for so long now. And whilst it has it's pro's, it also has it's cons. Ultimately, social media is what we make it, after all is it not just people posting their content? but is that content positive or negative? for every action there's a reaction.
The good. For those of you with any type of product to sell, know that social media is vital to attract customers and connect with your audience. Without social media how else would we bloggers, podcasters etc be able to reach so many people in a matter of seconds? we wouldn't. Also, through social media you are able to form bonds and meet some great people that wouldn't have even been on your radar without it.
The bad. The constant pollution of negativity that comes through social media can become overwhelming at times. Being tuned in to so many peoples thoughts at once it's pretty inevitable. So, in order to not allow yourself to drown it, i suggest: unfollowing or muting certain words/people.
The ugly. When you find yourself constantly comparing your life to others, disliking your looks without filters(snapchat) etc you might want to take a break from social media and center yourself. Get back to what's really important to you- spend time with your loved ones and be more present whilst doing so, be so engrossed in your goals that what others do doesn't affect you. Remember social media is where most people show you the highlights of their lives, you're only seeing what they allow you to see. So, don't fall into the trap of thinking all that glitters is gold. It's really not.
For any bloggers that are thinking about taking a social media detox but are worrying about their engagement going downhiil, i suggest you download buffer. This will allow you to schedule your blog posts to go out automatically.
