Spontaneous. Last month, I dove headfirst into what it means by taking an impromptu 7 day trip to Cuba. Why Cuba? Because it's been on my bucket list for years. 7 days, 6 hours of sleep, excursion after excursion. It really didn't hit me until I got back and boy did I feel it...I felt like death but would I do it again? hell yeah! in a heartbeat lol. I felt a great sense of exhilarating freedom that has had a lasting effect on me.
For someone who is so used to planning things, I now found myself wondering how I can incorporate a piece of this into my life. That experience definitely took me off autopilot. I came back yearning to experience more of that high. The high you get when you're living life as opposed to merely existing. The high of life.
When you throw caution to the wind, there's no safety net for you to fall back on, you're forced to be more alert and deal with whatever comes your way. But what you're left with is something really beautiful; experience. Experience is the greatest teacher in life, for it teaches us to grow.
When was the last time you really threw yourself into a situation without thinking about the consequences? (non-destructive, of course, lol) just ponder on that for a while and make an effort to. Some of our best memories are born out of these moments; spontaneity is to life, what seasoning is to food.
Here are 3 ways to be more spontaneous:
1. Stop waiting for the perfect time. While there may be times that seem more favourable than others, there is no perfect time. In fact, to me, it's the same as saying one day and you know that day never comes. Like, when are you going to do these things? in this lifetime or the next? what if you come back as an ant, then what?? lol. All jokes aside, the time is now. Life is not promised, so do all you can, with what you have, while still, you're able to.
2. Look at the world through a child's eyes. Remember being a child and being bright-eyed and full of curiosity? we didn't plan anything, we made up the games as we went along and everywhere we went was an adventure. The unknown was exciting.
3. Say yes more often. Throw yourself in at the deep end and start accepting invitations out, even on those days you don't necessarily feel up to it. Once you say yes everything else is out of your control and that's the exciting part. Sometimes it's nice to just go with the flow and see how life surprises us.
