Stress is an inevitable part of life. So, while we can't eliminate it, we can learn relaxation techniques to manage it, failing to do so can have serious effects on our health. Ready to kick stress to the curb?
Meditate. Meditation is a great way to relax, especially when you're under a great amount of stress. This is a simple yet effective way to de-stress. Find somewhere comfortable to sit, close your eyes and focus on your breathing or visualise yourself somewhere you'd rather be e.g. sunning it up on the beach. You can do this for a little as 10 mins. if time is on your side, go ahead and meditate for longer. If you find it hard to sit still, you may struggle with this but persevere and it will become easier over time.
Youtube have really great meditation music that you might want to check out- Yellow brick cinema is the best in my opinion.
Read. Losing yourself in a book is the ultimate relaxation. Grab your favourite book, curl up and forget about your worries when you re-emerge you'll feel so much better.
Listen to music. Listening to music you love triggers joy by releasing endorphins. Make a playlist with all of your favourite songs and whack it on whenever you're feeling stressed out.
Socialize. What's better than spending time with your family and friends? nothing. Being in the presence of people that make you feel good about yourself is important. Take some time out for those that uplift you and have a good belly laugh, after all, they do say laughter is the best medicine. And there's a reason why, it can help to lower blood pressure, reduce stress hormones and boost immune function by raising levels of infection-fighting cells.
Be Grateful. How many of us compare our lives to others? complaining about what we don't have instead of being grateful for what we do. By simply shifting our thoughts from constantly thinking about how much we don't have (negative) to focusing on how much we do have (positive) can really help with managing stress better. Keep a gratitude journal and write 5 things you're grateful for daily and see how much better you feel by doing this.
Exercise. I don't know about you, but I love a good workout. Exercise is a positive distraction which has plenty benefits for the body and mind.Physical activity helps bump up the production of your brain's feel-good neurotransmitters called endorphins.
Drink herbal tea. Herbal teas are caffeine-free and contain a lot of vitamins and minerals to energize your mind and body. They are great for winding down after a long and stressful day. Some herbal teas that are known for their de-stressing and mind lifting properties are mint, lavender, ginger, chamomile and lemon balm. Start experimenting with these herbal teas to find out which one you enjoy most.
