Would you believe me if I told you I grew up a tomboy? well, I still am at heart lol. It wasn't until I was about 14 years old that I started to really take an interest in fashion. If I liked the look of something I would wear it; it was all about how it made me feel and even now that is my mentality when it comes to what I wear.
Of course, I've had some hits and misses as some would say but I personally don't see it like that because I know to me it looked good at the time. I believe style is innate and it's not something that can be taught because it's personal to every one of us; it's a way to express ourselves, it's linked to our self-identity- so how can that be wrong? Some may like your style and others may not but at the end of the day, it is yours. You OWN it.
To me, the most stylish people are those that dance to the beat of their own drum; they experiment and take risks with fashion, they dress for themselves and do not wish to be a carbon copy of anyone else-truly refreshing. How stylish can one be if they are always concerned with fashion rules? Rules are restricting.
If I think about some of the people I use to blog about in my fashion appreciation posts, not one of them followed the rules..take Solange for example, her style is unique because the only person she's concerned with impressing is herself. If there's a trend I like I will incorporate it into my outfit, sure (and wear it when it's no longer on trend) but never would I switch up for every trend, I know that some trends are not for me and I wouldn't feel comfortable wearing things I don't like.
So, with that being said, wear that outfit you've been meaning to wear and show the world who you really are...self-expression= freedom.
