Sometimes we don't realize how drained we really until our body starts giving us a wake-up call; becoming irritable at little things, feeling lethargic, procrastinating, craving peace and quiet etc. I was supposed to go away the other day but due to unforeseen circumstances, the trip got cancelled. I was so annoyed because firstly, it was somewhere I've wanted to go all year and secondly, I really needed some 'me' time. I'd been putting myself second and boy was I feeling it. So, after a few minutes, i finally accepted my predicament and decided I was going to go to Yorkshire instead. Now, I had never been to this place nor had I ever had the desire to go but all I knew is that I needed a change of scenery and that would suffice.
Now that I've been, I'm so happy I decided to go, not only did I get the downtime I needed, I also fell in love with the place! The people were lovely, I had no schedule and was free to explore the place on my own accord, caught up on a lot of books I've been wanting to read for the longest time, took a social media detox and started journaling for the first time in years.
The picture you see above is the only picture I took during my time there. I barely used my phone and it felt so freeing. I arrived feeling confused about a lot of things but while there I gained clarity and felt energized; I left feeling like the trip truly served its purpose.
Going to Wales last year really opened my eyes to how most of us (including me) really believe we need to go abroad to explore and experience new destinations, when we have some really great places right here in the U.K. Since coming back from Wales I've made it my mission to explore as much of the U.K as possible. Now, I'm not saying this country can compare to the Caribbean compete but overlook what's on your doorstep.
